Together, they “compel the inner man who dwells in the prison of his body to suffer through his senses”.

“these tormentors depart one by one from the man who receives God’s mercy”, which manifests itself as ten “powers of God” (δυνάμεις θεοῦ, dunámeis theoû) that cleanse the body and soul of the twelve (and more) irrational tormentors:

1. Knowledge of God
2. Experience of joy
3. Continence
4. Steadfastness
5. Justice
6. Generosity
7. Truth
8. Supreme Good
9. Life
10. Light
